The best time to visit Mount Etna from Catania

In short: April to October is the best window for tours — reliable weather, all the craters open and the cable car running. May, June and September hit the sweet spot of warm days and thinner crowds. Winter brings snow and even skiing, but some summit routes close.

Spring (Apr–Jun) — warm, green lower slopes, snow lingering up high, fewer crowds. Excellent for hiking.
Summer (Jul–Aug) — hottest and busiest; book ahead and start early to beat the heat and the crowds.
Autumn (Sep–Oct) — arguably the best month: warm, stable weather, grape harvest in the wineries, thinner crowds.
Winter (Nov–Mar) — snow on the upper slopes, skiing at Nicolosi and Linguaglossa, but some summit routes and the cable car can close in bad weather.

Morning or afternoon?

Morning tours usually have the clearest views — cloud tends to build over the summit by afternoon. If you want golden light over the Valle del Bove, a sunset departure in spring or autumn is hard to beat. The day trip offers both.
